Project Summary

Farrow & Ball is one of Britain’s most beloved luxury brands, but love doesn’t always convert to sales. Working as the brand’s in-house team, we led a dual transformation: repositioning the brand for North American growth through omnichannel brand strategy and overhauling the entire digital infrastructure to turn global brand affinity into revenue. The result was a business that didn’t just look the part, it performed like one.

Who is Farrow & Ball?

Farrow & Ball is a British luxury paint and wallpaper brand renowned for its deep, richly pigmented colours and historic palettes that respond to light to bring walls to life. With a reputation for finest ingredients, refined methods, and transparent practices, the company blends heritage with accountability while maintaining a global presence through showrooms in the UK, France, Germany, Canada, and the United States.

The Challenge

Farrow & Ball had earned a remarkable following: an engaged, aesthetically driven audience who loved the brand deeply. But love wasn’t reliably translating into sales and in the United States, one of the brand’s most important growth markets, the disconnect was particularly acute: Instagram growth was outpacing sample sales by a significant margin.

The challenge was twofold. Commercially, the brand needed to close the gap between brand equity and revenue across showrooms, stockists, online and trade. Digitally, it needed an infrastructure capable of supporting global growth: a new platform, a coherent SEO and paid media strategy, and a regionalised approach to content and ecommerce. Doing both simultaneously, and doing them in a way that preserved the heritage that made the brand worth loving in the first place, was the work.

The Obstacles

In the United States, Americans perceived Farrow & Ball as aspirational but not necessarily for them: a British brand for British interiors. Broadening that perception required inviting customers into the story of the brand, not just the colours, and doing it with the restraint and elegance the brand is known for.

Digitally, building a strong global destination for a brand with multiple regional markets, each with their own audience expectations, price sensitivities and cultural reference points, required careful architecture. The infrastructure had to be both unified and flexible, maintaining brand consistency while allowing genuine in-market relevance.

The Solution

The transformation happened on two fronts, working in tandem. The two workstreams were designed to feed each other: brand activity created demand, digital ensured that demand had somewhere to go.

Positioning
On the brand and market side, we reoriented Farrow & Ball’s positioning for an American audience, moving beyond just colour to articulate the full value of the product: pigment quality, eco credentials, sustainability, and the craftsmanship behind every tin.
Partnerships & Activations
We structured partnerships with top designers and tastemakers, from Roman & Williams to cultural institutions like MoMA, to place the brand in the moments and spaces that American designers, painters and consumers aspired to. In-market activations brought the palette to life across contexts, from four-square colonials to desert bungalows, while stockist expansion, an Anthropologie Home partnership, and remote colour consultations broadened access and drove conversion.
Replatforming To Drive Global Visibility
On the digital side, we rebuilt the foundation from the ground up. A new platform replaced the existing infrastructure, with a regionalistion strategy ensuring UK, North American and European audiences received relevant, market-specific experiences.
SEO & Paid Media
SEO and paid media programmes were introduced and scaled, social was brought into alignment with the broader brand narrative, and ecommerce capability was strengthened to capture the demand the brand strategy was generating.
